Delta from v10 comes from the excellent profiling work done by
Lei Huang and Han Zhou from eBay (many thanks!!!):

In v10 patch 2/9, there was some code added to physical.c to
allow E2E test cases to pass, but that code turns out to
be (a) have really poor performance and (b) not be necessary
after the changes in patch 5/9.  So, v11 add a comment to
said code in PS 2 and removes comment and code from PS 5.
