23 FEB 2016
ATTENDEES: Daniele, Mark G, Ian, Ciara, Sugesh, FBL, Aaron,
Rashid, Eelco, Jan S, Johan, Nic + others I didn’t note

Next meeting: TBD

GENERAL
- Status of OVS 2.7 - almost ready for release
-- Will not be an LTS. Additional value of "LTS" label questioned as
recent branches are typically maintained anyway
-- FBL reported that OVS 2.7 looks good through some Red Hat testing
(https://mail.openvswitch.org/pipermail/ovs-dev/2017-February/329114.html)

- DPDK version support
-- OVS supporting DPDK 17.02 does not require any code changes
-- Question was whether docs etc. should be updated for DPDK 17.02 or
stay at DPDK 16.11 (Ciara)
-- No dependency on new DPDK 17.02 features at present
-- DPDK 16.11 is a DPDK LTS release. Consensus was to keep docs at DPDK
16.11 at the moment. Discussion in thread
(https://mail.openvswitch.org/pipermail/ovs-dev/2017-February/329111.html)
- DPDK 16.11 has a stable branch - looks a good idea to use tip of this
branch and pick up big fixes (Ian)

FEATURES
- Just mentioned that NAT and reconfigure patches are on mailing list
for review.

PERFORMANCE
- Jan Scheurich shared some analysis of packet drops for PVP by
instrumenting code with counters and seeing what is occurring around the
time when a virtio queue fills.
-- No significant performance drop with instrumenting the code.
~1%.
-- Upcalls causing packet drops. Also seeing differences between QEMU
versions.

HWOL
- Discussed use cases for Hwol without conntrack.
-- Mentioned VNF Firewall, discussed that partial offload (e.g. Hw
classification) was a mechanism for acceleration and not a use case.
