Yes, I'm just using a bash script in the ovs sandbox that uses ovn-nbctl 
to do all database operations. For the unpatched scenario, I call 
ovn-nbctl twice for each port: once to create the port and once to 
create the new ACL. For the patched scenario, I also call ovn-nbctl 
twice for each port: once to create the port and once to add the port to 
the port group.

As far as realism is concerned, you're definitely correct from an 
OpenStack perspective. However, there are other platforms 
(ovn-kubernetes for one) that are using ovn-nbctl for all their database 
interactions. I think the bigger takeaway here are the deltas than the 
actual times.
