It looks like this issue is related to another xenserver addon (marathon everrun VM). 
After reinstalling a clean XS 5.5 the error is gone. 

Maybe that's something we should take offline and talk to our PM's how this should be tested.

Hi,

This isn't expected or a known bug.  Is that error message being printed 
on the console in response to the ifup commands (and is it the complete 
message)?  If so, it seems like Linux bonding might be in use.

Can you send me the contents of your /etc/ovs-vswitchd.conf file and the 
output of the  "ifconfig -a" and "ovs-dpctl show" commands?
