My guess is that is won't make a difference since the sysfs stuff isn't really part of bridge compatibility from a code perspective.

I'm assuming that /sys/class/net/br0 itself exists but can you check that? Can you also check to see whether there is a brif directory in /sys/class/net/br0 or a brport directory in /sys/class/net/<interface in bridge>?
